Dinmore Manor –
Locomotive
no. 7820
Dinmore Manor
returned to steam in 1995 after a long restoration period from
scrapyard condition. Over the next 9 years the loco
gave good service and covered in excess of 78,000 miles on the West
Somerset Railway between
Bishops Lydeard and Minehead.
Included in this period was an appearance on BBC televisions
“Antiques
Roadshow” and use for the Duke of Edinburgh’s visit to the
WSR in 2002.
Since 2004, DMLL have
been
raising the funds for its heavy overhaul – this is currently in
progress with
the boiler work underway at Ian Riley’s works in Bury and the
chassis at
Tyseley loco works.
The estimated total
cost of the
restoration is in excess of £350,000 and we aim, with your help,
to have Dinmore Manor back in
steam in 2012.
How You
Could Help
Boiler Stays
There are 844 steel
stays inside
the boiler of Dinmore Manor which need to be replaced, they hold the
inner
firebox in position – a vital role!
Each of these stays
costs around
£15.00 to make.
You could
play a part in the return to steam of this historic Ex-British Railways
locomotive
by sponsoring one or more of these stays.
Boiler Tubes
The boiler contains
158 small flue tubes
which are at the heart of the steam production. Each
of these costs around £60 to manufacture
and fit.
You could
be a “super sponsor” by funding either one boiler tube or
four stays.
Gift Idea
How about giving a
sponsorship as
a present for a railway enthusiast or even as something different for
the man
or woman who has everything!
All sponsors will receive an individual signed Certificate of Sponsorship and each amount of £15 will qualify for one entry in a free draw –first prize a footplate ride on Dinmore Manor – five prizes of a pair of Rover tickets on the West Somerset Railway.
