‘Dinmore
Manor’ was built in 1950 by British Railways as a continuation of
a design introduced by the GWR in 1938. These were the smallest 4-6-0s
to run on the Western and were primarily intended for work on secondary
routes and branch lines. Although Manors were not used on the Minehead
branch prior to closure in 1971, Dinmore Manor fits perfectly the
GWR/BRW image which the West Somerset Railway has recreated and is
ideally suited to handling service trains of up to 9 coaches.
Restoration was completed in 1995 and Dinmore Manor was in use
continually from then until 2004, during which time the engine covered
nearly 80,000 miles.
